Saccharin sodium is one of the most commonly used synthetic sweeteners in the food industry with the longest history, but it is also the most controversial synthetic sweetener. Saccharin sodium is 300-500 times sweeter than sucrose. It is not broken down in the body and is excreted from the body by the kidney.
