Valganciclovir HCL is a precursor to ganciclovir, an active ganciclovir valine ester that can be rapidly hydrolyzed into ganciclovir by phosphatase in intestinal and liver cells after oral administration. Its antiviral Chemicalbook toxicity profile and mechanism of action are similar to that of ganciclovir, but its bioavailability is significantly improved compared to ganciclovir. Its bioavailability by oral absorption was 62.4%, 10 times that of ganciclovir, while its toxicity was greatly reduced. Valagcncilovir HCL is used to prevent and treat secondary CMV infection in organ transplant recipients.
